Crafty Sea Gal studio is an ideal location for exploring Whitby and yet in a hidden away part of town. Close to everything - only 5 minutes walk to the station and all the surrounding amenities. Another 5-10 minutes will get you on the pier, the promenade or the beach, or cross the swing bridge and turn left to the old part of town where the ancient, cobbled streets lead to the 199 steps up to St Mary's Church and Whitby Abbey. If you turn right over the bridge you will find the fascinating Cook Memorial Museum where Captain James Cook lodged as an apprentice, and a surprising selection of shops and restaurants.
Opening out onto a peaceful garden and patio, Crafty Sea Gal basement studio welcomes all, whether attending a workshop, on retreat or simply staying for a b&b break.
The art retreat/b&b is typical of Whitby houses with many steps - it has 3 floors. At the top, on the second floor is an en-suite double bedroom with delightful views over the river and new bridge, with frequent glimpses of the steam train going to and fro. To the back is a bright and cheerful en-suite twin bedroom.
A further single bedroom with a rear aspect and shared bathroom is located on the first floor, and if mobility is an issue, please enquire for an additional option of a king-sized room with same shared bathroom. There are still stairs to negotiate to the first level, however this may be preferable to the second floor.
On the ground level is a cosy kitchen where breakfast will be available and where you can help yourselves to tea and coffee. Guests are most welcome to use the living room as there are no televisions located in the bedrooms.
Free wi-fi is available to all guests.
All rooms can be booked as an art retreat with or without guide/tutor, or simple bed & breakfast, ideal for walking and touring. You will be welcome to work in the Crafty Sea Gal studio, and for those on the art retreat there are also some printmaking facilities – please enquire.
